Aperam publishes its first Sustainability Report
11/07/2012
Aperam, a leading global producer of stainless and speciality steel, has published its first Sustainability Report today. The report outlines the Company's approach to sustainability, its record and policies in areas such as safety, people, communities, environment, and the contribution of the Company's products to society.
The report also shows how Aperam's sustainability approach is reflected in its endeavours to meet its customers' expectations and how innovation lies at the heart of its industrial and commercial processes.
Until it was created as a spin-off from ArcelorMittal in January 2011, Aperam's activity was covered by ArcelorMittal's annual Corporate Responsibility Report. Both in Western Europe and in Brazil, its two main industrial hubs, Aperam can look back at a decade-long record as a company which values safety as a core priority, preserves natural resources and the environment, and cares for its people and the communities in which it operates.
Aperam has adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainable Development Guidelines; it joined the United National Global Compact (UNGC) in January 2012.
Philippe Darmayan, CEO of Aperam, commented: "For our first Sustainability Report, we chose to highlight Safety as our core priority, for both our employees and our contractors. Our goal is to be the safest steel company in the world. Although full safety can unfortunately never be considered as attained, our global safety indicators showed significant improvement in 2011. We have plenty of other noteworthy projects and programmes ongoing both in Europe and Brazil, which contribute to make Aperam more sustainable and which we are proud to present in this report. We want our sustainability approach to permeate all aspects of our business as we believe it is beneficial to the Company's overall performance".
