ANDRITZ METALS to modernize furnace plant at Rasselstein

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Rasselstein GmbH, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, to renovate the automation and drive technology of continuous annealing furnace 3 in Andernach, Germany. The scope of supply comprises modernization and complete new drive technology, including basic automation and visualizing for the entire plant, which is to go into operation in November 2012 after the one-month rebuild.

Business integration of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metals has been approved

Yesterday, Nippon Steel Corporation) and Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. received from the Japan Fair Trade Commission a Notification To The Effect That a Cease and Desist Order Will Not Be Issued, which means that the business integration of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metals has thereby been approved by the JFTC. The Companies agreed to commence their consideration of the Business Integration in February 2011, and the JFTC has been conducting its review of the Business Integration since the submission by the Companies on May 31, 2011 of Notification of a Plan Regarding The Merger. The Companies sincerely appreciated the intense review of the JFTC in a short period and understand that the JFTC has conducted its review with due regard to the actual conditions of competition in the relevant markets.

China dumps massively organic coated steel on EU market

Eurofer filed an anti-dumping complaint with the European Commission providing evidence that imports of organic coated steel from China are sold at dumped prices and cause significant injury to the EU steel industry. Over the past four years imports from China into the EU increased dramatically, despite the drop in EU consumption. As a result of this, the EU industry lost sales and market share forcing it to cut back on production and to reduce capacity, says Gordon Moffat, Eurofers director general.

Cyrus P Mistry appointed Deputy Chairman

The Board of Directors of Tata Sons at its meeting yesterday appointed Mr Cyrus P Mistry as Deputy Chairman. He will work with Ratan N Tata over the next year and take over from him when Mr. Tata retires in December 2012. This is as per the unanimous recommendation of the Selection Committee.

Dan DiMicco named to Manufacturing Hall of Fame

Nucor Corporation Chairman and CEO Dan DiMicco was named toIndustryWeek magazine's Manufacturing Hall of Fame.  DiMicco was one of ten members selected this year.  In describing the inductees for 2011,IndustryWeek said, "This year's inductees have made names for themselves by challenging the established norms of their organizations, their industries and their world."
