On 23 November 2023, the German Sustainability Award (“Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis” or DNP), one of the most prestigious prizes in Europe, will be awarded. In the Metal Industry category, the Swiss Steel Group based in Lucerne and Düsseldorf is celebrating its win after a particularly hard-fought competition.
This year’s German Sustainability Award ceremony marks the sixteenth time that this prestigious award will be presented. The DNP has been awarded annually since 2008 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation (“Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V.”) and its cooperation partners, which include the German Federal Government, the German Council for Sustainable Development, municipal associations and business organisations.
The German Sustainability Award focuses exclusively on achievements in sustainability and honours exemplary initiatives in business, local government and research. With five competitions, over 800 applicants and around 2,000 guests at the closing ceremony, it is the largest award of its kind in Europe.
With their expertise, judgement and purpose, the 140 jurors of the DNP for companies selected the companies that they believe are leading the sustainable transformation in their sectors this year. Their decisions clearly reflect the breadth and depth of the transformation.
The finalists in the Metal Industry category included four very strong companies, among which the Swiss Steel Group came out on top. Sustainability is one of the Swiss Steel Group’s strategic corporate goals, and it is one of the market leaders that can already successfully supply green steel to their customers.
On the occasion of the announcement of the winners, Frank Koch, CEO of the Swiss Steel Group, shared, “We are overwhelmed and honoured to have been chosen as the winner of the German Sustainability Award by the high-calibre jury. This is a lasting testament to our ongoing commitment to decarbonisation and our vision of an environmentally friendly future in the steel industry, which we are sticking to even in challenging times. Above all, this award recognises the achievements of our employees, who are all working hard every day in a difficult economic environment to make further progress in decarbonising our industry.”
“For us, sustainability is not only a strategic corporate goal, but also a social responsibility towards future generations”, Frank Koch added.
