Chairman Emeritus Daniel R. DiMicco inducted into North Carolina Business Hall of Fame

Chairman Emeritus and former President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation Daniel R. DiMicco was inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame on November 17 by the Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas and the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce. The event honored the accomplishments of outstanding business leaders from across the Tar Heel State. Mr. DiMicco was joined by Mr. Robert J. Barnhill Jr. of the Barnhill Contracting Company and Mrs. Susan Cameron of Reynolds American Inc., each of whom was selected by a panel of business and community leaders for their significant contributions in building and defining the North Carolina business landscape.

John J. Ferriola, Nucor's Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, praised Mr. DiMicco's career as an example for others to follow. "Dan's leadership of Nucor was the model which every company should attempt to match," Ferriola said. "The growth that Nucor sustained over the dozen years of his leadership at a time of unprecedented global challenges is remarkable in every sense of the word. Congratulations, Dan, for this most worthy and deserved honor."

Mr. DiMicco led Nucor Corporation from September of 2000 through the end of 2012, during which time the company saw unprecedented growth. Mr. DiMicco served as Nucor's Chief Executive Officer longer than anyone since company founder, Ken Iverson. During this time, Nucor completed over 50 acquisitions for a total investment of $6.5 billion. In addition to the company's record of profitable growth, Mr. DiMicco proved himself an effective champion for domestic manufacturing and rules-based, rules-enforced free trade.

During Mr. DiMicco's tenure, in 2005, BusinessWeek magazine ranked Nucor the nation's No. 1 Company, based on sales growth and return on investment. In subsequent years, Nucor made three additional appearances on the BusinessWeek 50 list. In 2008, Mr. DiMicco received the Charlotte Business Journal's sixth annual "Business Person of the Year" award. The Harvard Business Review included Dan in its 2010 top 100 list of "The Best Performing CEOs in the World." Additionally, he has been previously inducted into the IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame.

Ken Iverson, Nucor's transformative President and Chief Executive Officer from the 1960s through the mid-1990s, was himself inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame in 1997.
