Dillinger supplies steel for offshore wind farm project in Japan

Recently, the Akita Noshiro offshore wind farm project was commissioned. It is the first major offshore project ever built in Japan. The monopile foundation structures of approximately 26,300 tons of heavy plate in thicknesses ranging from 50 to 100 mm were supplied by Dillinger.

The Akita and Noshiro offshore projects are part of Japan's ambitious plan to develop green energy. The government plans to approve three to four wind farm sites each year in the future, with a capacity of 1 GW. The two sites cover 730 hectares in the coastal zone of Akita Prefecture, and in the future, 33 wind turbines with a capacity of 139 MW will provide environmentally friendly electricity to about 124,000 households annually. The wind farms are founded on monopiles that are over 78 meters long and weigh around 880 tons in a water depth of between 10 and 30 meters.
