The Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas is supplying eight wind turbines to Terrawatt Planungsgesellschaft mbH. They are to be installed in the Bad Lauchstädt energy park and generate green hydrogen here. The project consortium speaks of a milestone for the project.
A prerequisite for the conclusion of the supply contract was the successful completion of the approval procedure on the basis of the Federal Immission Control Act (BImschG) by the Saalekreis district. According to the company, the turbines are of the most modern EnVentus product platform.
The start of construction for the eight wind turbines and thus the first stage of the production of green hydrogen at the Bad Lauchstädt energy park is still planned for the first half of this year and should at best be completed by the end of 2023.
Sector coupling based on wind energy
Vestas will supply V162-6.2 wind turbines with a rated output of 6.2 MW each. The turbines are part of the onshore wind turbine portfolio in the high MW class.
"The complexity of the Bad Lauchstädt energy park makes the project an exciting challenge. In order for the overall system of wind turbines, electrolysis, grid control and other components to work in the end, close coordination is necessary. Our versatile interfaces will implement higher-level setpoint specifications in the planned setup and provide data for control. The selected wind turbines are thus ideally suited for integration with green hydrogen production," explains Leander Rust, technical project manager at Vestas.
For two turbines, tubular steel towers with a height of 119 m will be used. The remaining six turbines with hub heights of 166 m and 169 m will be installed on locally manufactured concrete hybrid towers. Finally, the wind turbines will be combined into one generation unit via a central wind farm controller.
Important step for the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park model project
Falk Zeuner, managing director of Terrawatt Planungsgesellschaft mbH sums up:
"Having now worked long and hard towards the necessary approval for our wind farm, we are delighted to now have it in our hands. In the end, it was also an important prerequisite for fixing the supply contract with Vestas."
