Gerdau issues final acceptance certificate for hot skin-pass mill

The largest Brazilian steel producer has issued the FAC for a new hot skin-pass mill with in-line side trimmer for its Ouro Branco production site in the state of Minas Gerais. The project involves the installation of a new hot skin-pass mill that will process up to 823 000 tpy of hot rolled strip of LC and MC, API up to X56, shipbuilding, HSLA, pressure vessel, deep and medium-drawing grades, ensuring full compliance with final product requirements for suppressed yield point, improved strip flatness and coil shape. This plant processes strip in thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 12.7 mm, with a maximum width of 2 100 mm.

The hot skin-pass mill complies with the latest requirements of European, Italian and Brazilian laws concerning safety and environment and, at the same time, minimizes manning and maintenance. This is achieved thanks to the standardization of spare parts and close cooperation with the customer in developing a job safety concept; a document describing the automation sequences for the areas that operators can access in complete safety.

Danieli Automation developed a “tailor-made” Level 1 and Level 2, for the electrical and automation systems.

The distinguishing feature of this plant, which makes it unique in the world, is the turret-type side trimmer located after the mill stand to ensure the required final product widths for Gerdau’s final customers.

Thanks to the combined use of mechanics and rolling models, Danieli is able to offer high performance parameters in terms of quality and guaranteed tolerances of final products, demonstrated by the final acceptance of the plant.

This project reconfirms Danieli as a worldwide leader in advanced cold rolling equipment and processing lines.
