SFC Energy AG delivers 15 methanol fuel cells to the Würzburg-based company Axsol. They are to be used by the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) for self-sufficient power supply of mobile vehicle hangars.
AXSOL is developing and producing three regenerative energy containers with the 15 EFOY Pro 12000 Duo fuel cells, each of which has an output power of 500 watts. These are to permanently ensure the power supply of three mobile vehicle halls of the BBK each.
Helpful for refugee accommodation
The mobile vehicle halls are large inflatable tents that can be set up in the open field. There, the BBK's emergency forces can store vehicles and equipment and carry out maintenance and repair work. They can also be used to accommodate refugees, for example, or as a treatment site in an emergency.
In the energy containers, methanol fuel cells designed for continuous operation produce energy that is stored in lithium iron phosphate batteries. The system uses the generated power to supply the tent blower or lighting, for example, and provides charging options for various battery-powered equipment. Depending on the operational situation, the energy containers can also be used for mobile power supply.
"Making civil defense more capable of action and deployment".
According to the company, SFC Energy's fuel cells are suitable for disaster relief: they produce renewable electricity regardless of the weather and have low maintenance requirements, according to the manufacturer. It also says the logistics of methanol fuel cartridges are easier than with diesel generators. This could be especially important during an emergency response in remote, rural areas, mountain valleys and unpredictable terrain.
"Due to the accumulation of unpredictable natural forces as a result of climate change and the changing geopolitical situation, civil protection and disaster relief in Germany are getting more and more attention. The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance is therefore pushing projects for efficient and effective equipment in order to be optimally prepared for possible contingencies.
Mobile vehicle sheds and energy containers equipped with powerful EFOY Pro 12000 duo fuel cells can make a major contribution in this regard, as they make civil defense more capable of acting and deploying to counter local hazards more quickly. We as SFC Energy are proud to be involved in protecting the population with our fuel cell solutions", says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy AG.
