Recently, the Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group (TISCO) steel mill underwent a comprehensive upgrade. It is Primetal's largest automation project to date. The switchover to the new systems was carried out remotely and within just one week. As a result, the project could be completed two months ahead of schedule.
Complete Automation
Primetals Technologies upgraded the level 2 automation of 14 steel mills throughout the entire melt shop. In addition, the central management system for raw material logistics and evaluation as well as seven continuous slab casters were upgraded. These comprehensive upgrades allow TISCO to control the steelmaking process from a central control center. By fully interconnecting all solutions, the "Integrated Control Center" (ICC) is a prerequisite for "steelmaking at the push of a button".
Increase in Productivity, Quality, and Flexibility
The modernization of the Level 2 automation enables an even more precise calculation of process parameters. The modernization is based on modern metallurgical models, which will improve the productivity, quality, and flexibility of TISCO's production process. In addition, the user interface of the software system has been modernized and is now easier to navigate and more intuitive to use. New interfaces will facilitate future implementation of enhancements as well as communication between systems. The process optimization solutions are operated without hardware thanks to the complete virtualization of all servers, which in turn reduces the need for IT maintenance.
