Swiss Steel Group has announced a close partnership with Schwäbische Formdrehteile (SFB), with the latter agreeing to purchase Green Steel Climate+ from the former.
As part of its transformation strategy, German company SFB plans to reduce its environmental footprint, especially with regard to Scope 3, which covers purchased materials. Swiss Steel Group brings expertise in the electric arc furnace process, efficient use of steel scrap and targeted use of low-carbon electricity. As a result, Swiss Steel Group’s product range is up to 83% lower in emissions than the industry average.
Swiss Steel Group and SFB, a leading supplier of precision parts and valves for fluid technology, struck up their close collaboration in a workshop for a project in the hydraulic sector with a well-known German OEM. The focus here was on production using Xtreme Performance (XTP®) technology, thanks to which Swiss Steel Group can guarantee thermomechanical rolling of almost any conventionally produced standard steel.
An ultra-fine micro-structure (<5µm) can be created through the targeted application of heat and force. This production technique brings out properties in the material that can otherwise only be achieved by using higher levels of alloy content or carrying out complex, cost-intensive additional processes.
Following intensive discussions, SFB and Swiss Steel have agreed to exclusively source Green Steel Climate+ from Swiss Steel’s plants in Switzerland (Steeltec) and Germany (Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Speciality Steel) starting in January 2024. Green Steel Climate+ is made exclusively using electricity from renewable sources.
In procuring this steel, SFB is taking another step towards reducing its environmental footprint. The decision to switch to eco-friendly steel underlines both companies’ commitment to a sustainable future while helping to reduce CO2 emissions along the entire supply chain.
