Continuing on its verticalisation course, CREMER ERZKONTOR has completed a takeover of fellow German company HAG (Handels- und Aufbereitungsgesellschaft für Mineralien mbH, Hamm), which specialises in processing chromite sand for the steel and foundry industries. This will boost CREMER ERZKONTOR's processing capacity by 120,000 tonnes per year.
“Our strategic goal is to develop from being purely raw materials traders to managing the entire supply of raw materials for our customers,” says Nils Fleig, executive director of CREMER ERZKONTOR. “With the acquisition of HAG, we can now offer processing of chromite sand, an important raw material in the refractory and foundry industries. Together with our other two German grinding plants in Hamm and Wesel, this brings our European refractory material processing capacity to 300,000 tonnes per year, making us one of Europe’s largest processors today.”
HAG was founded in 2012 and focuses on processing chromite sand for the metalworking industry, specialising in drying, de-dusting, cooling, screening, storing, and packing the material. The HAG facility spans an area of 30,000m², 20,000m² of which is used for storing raw product and 4,000m² of which is used to store packed product (big bags, paper bags).
“CREMER ERZKONTOR is a very good choice as a buyer of our family company,” says Stefan Frevel, former CEO and main shareholder of HAG. “We have worked together as partners for years, and I am sure that HAG is an ideal fit with CREMER ERZKONTOR's strategic development course.”
