Based on the Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture (OPC UA) standard, the die casting industry is developing an open communication interface for the die casting cell and subordinate equipment and systems, thus preparing for Industry 4.0.
International working group for OPC UA
Under the leadership of the VDMA and CEMAFON, an international working group has been formed to standardize a forward-looking interface based on the currently dynamically developing OPC UA standard for production machinery (OPC 40001-1, UA CS for Machinery - Basic Building Blocks, V1.03), for processes within die casting cells and for the exchange of information between the components of the cell and systems outside.
These manufacturer-independent information models then form the interfaces between components, machines and systems as so-called Companion Specifications (CS).
Aim of the industrializing standard
The goal of the working groups is to define a standard for the HPDC cell that can be industrialized as quickly as possible and implemented with today's technology. This standard will then be transferred to the subcomponents and their detailed requirements and published as a separate Companion Specification (CS).
The publications of the first modules of the standard: "HPDC Machine Identification", " HPDC Machine Status" and "HPDC Alarms + Warnings" are scheduled for summer 2023.
