The automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler is supporting local aid organizations in China with a donation of six million RMB, which corresponds to a sum of around 800,000 euros. The company is thus also making a financial contribution to the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus in China.
The money will be used to buy medical products, food and other relief supplies for the people in the affected provinces. In order to provide additional support for its employees in the Chinese Schaeffler plants, the company is sending another 100,000 respiratory protection masks from Germany.
In the course of the spread of the novel coronavirus, Schaeffler took all measures at an early stage to protect the health and safety of its employees in and outside China. Georg F. W. Schaeffler, family shareholder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schaeffler AG, explains: "As a global family company, we also assume responsibility for our employees and society. With our measures, we support local organizations and therefore the community in the fight against the epidemic".
Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler AG, says: "We continue to monitor the situation surrounding the spread of the coronavirus very closely and are in close contact with our local crisis management team and the authorities. The health of our employees is our top priority".
As one of the largest family-owned companies in the world, Schaeffler has been active in China since 1995. Schaeffler employs around 13,000 people in China in eight plants and 20 sales offices.
