Environmental Monitoring and Greenhouse Gas Reporting:
All our factory emissions are proactively managed in accordance with local regulations. Regular analysis of our operations enables us to take appropriate action to reduce our emissions. In reporting GHG emissions, we have used the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.
Energy Conservation Plan:
The Vesuvius and Foseco Energy Conservation Plan was launched in2011 with the objective of reducing our normalized energy consumption by 10% over the following three years. Managing our energy intensity is part of enhancing our cost competitiveness. It also contributes to improving the total environmental impact of our customers
We launched our Energy Efficiency and CO2 reduction project to foster the deployment of energy efficiency and sustainable solutions engineered by our technology departments. A CO2 Impact stamp, in use since 2011, highlights the most energy efficient solutions in our portfolio of products and services.

Melt treatment for aluminum melts:
The Melt Treatment department will show a variety of energy efficient enhancements of Foseco's latest technology for the automated treatment of aluminum melts (MTS units with latest SMARTT control).
SMARTT process control, based on the Foseco degassing simulation, calculates parameters for both degassing and gassing treatments for the specific adjustment of hydrogen contents in the melt. All the operator has to do is to set the desired melt quality and SMARTT then transfers the best treatment parameters to the PLC control, based on environmental conditions, melt temperature, rotor design and alloy composition. Due to the shortest possible treatment time under given starting conditions, the temperature loss is minimized, which leads to energy savings. Combined with innovative rotor designs, Foseco guarantees consistent quality and resource-saving, reliable results.
A new weighing system has been added to the MTS 1500 process. The amount of added granulate is measured and controlled by a load cell. The high dosing accuracy prevents overdosing of chemical products, especially in chemical grain refinement and enhancement, thus saving considerable amounts of melt granulate. A foundry reduced the amount of molten metal with post-treatment in sodium refining from 9 % to now 1 % by using gravimetry. The recording of the dosing quantity improves process control and enables precise documentation of this process step. A new generation of rotors combines proven design for high-performance degassing with longer service life; a contribution to cost reduction and material protection in foundries.
