Quality Assurance Systems

With EMG’s Quality Assurance Systems IMPOC and SORM 3plus material characteristics such as tensile strength and yield point as well as the roughness of the strip can be evaluated online and contact-less over the complete length and width of the materials in strip processing lines. Based on those values the operating process can be optimized further. Also the strip stabilization system EMG eMASS® has established itself in numerous hot-dip galvanizing lines worldwide.

With hotCAM EMG also offers a solution for camber and position measurement in hot processes.
For the process reliability in a hot rolling mill it is extremely important to keep a defined position of the strip between the hot rolling stands. The continuous measurement of the strip position allows an optimized adjustment of the rolling force and gap. In reversing mills EMG hotCAM leads to a reduction of the camber of the strip and thus prevents collisions of the strip with the mechanical strip guiding rail. The continuous control of the centre position in a hot rolling mill also reduces cobbles (outbreaks) of the strip, which lead to serious damages and production stops. With the measured parameters transmitted to the level-2-system, the line operator is able to realize a closed loop system (sensor and mill) for camber reduction and optimized strip positioning in the hot rolling mill. Strip guiding systems are mainly used in cold rolling mills and surface refinement lines. The aim is to achieve best results in strip guiding and during strip winding but with nearly maintenance-free techniques. With that the quality and availability of a steadily running strip guiding system is decisively influenced. In the field of EMG Automation is a worldwide market leader owing to the technique applied and the number of systems installed. EMG offers individual solutions adapted to your needs with components of sensors, hydraulics, electronics and actuators.

EMG required a new paradigm in furnace solutions with its new innovative strip centre measurement EMG-Vivaldi® for high temperature areas. The sensor itself is mounted outside of the hot furnace atmosphere on the outside wall of the furnace. Each contact to the inside furnace is avoided, even unforeseen strip movements cannot damage the sensors anymore. Thanks to the Ultra Wideband Radar technology the furnace wall becomes transparent in the trues sense of the word. The guiding of the strip depends on reliable absolute values of the position of the strip. With EMG-Vivaldi® EMG fulfills the childhood dream “being able to look through walls”.
