Our products

Product category: Finishing lines

Abrasive cut-off machines and surface grinding machines

In terms of abrasive cut-off machines BRAUN offers various cutting methods, depending on the type, shape and size of the material to be cut as well as the specific application (e.g. stand-alone machine or machine integrated in a line for continuous production in a rolling mill). The cutting method will significantly determine the design of the abrasive cut-off machine and the movements of the cut-off wheel and the material to be cut.

Abrasive cut-off machines work quickly and precisely, producing clean cutting edges.

BRAUN is a specialist for cut-off machines with cutting wheels in dimensions from 400 to 2000 mm.

For further details please contact our sales department or our foreign distributors worldwide.

Abrasive cutting - an advanced and flexible technology

  • extremely clean and fast
  • excellent quality of the cut-off material
  • quick and easy retooling
  • maximum throughput, also in case of continuous operation
  • minimum noise level
  • universally applicable, even for very hard steels and nonferrous metal alloys,
as well as critical materials (such as titanium)
  • cutting of the workpiece in hot or cold state
  • flexible machine conception - proven design also for flat foundations
  • dry cutting without emulsion for almost all applications
  • fully automatic operation including visualization and data logging
  • separation of scrap pieces according to grades (e.g. to alloys)

Machine design versions

  • chop cutting (for single bars and narrow layers)
  • traverse cutting (for wide layers, slabs, plates and sheets)
  • rotary cutting (for tubes)
  • index cutting (for workpieces having a large diameter)

BRAUN - competence of abrasive cutting

  • more than 260 abrasive cut-off machines delivered worldwide since 1965
  • permanent and targeted research & development
  • numerous patents and developments, cut-off wheel release mechanism, dry cutting technology, constant-performance cutting, etc.)
  • intensive cooperation with major tool manufacturers (TYROLIT, RAPPOLD and NORTON use BRAUN abrasive cut-off machines for their own R&D)
  • large-scale trial and demonstration plant at the BRAUN premises

Before a continuously cast, rolled or forged semifinished product of stainless steel can be refined to a high-grade finished product, it must be ensured that the surface is free from cracks, scale or other inclusions.

High-pressure grinding is the most reliable and most efficient way to get clean workpiece surfaces ready for proceessing. It can be applied flexibly for various grinding tasks such as surface grinding, edge grinding or spot grinding.

HP (high-pressure/high-performance) surface grinding

  • the most innovative grinding technology currently available
  • equally perfect for smooth grinding, spot grinding and edge grinding
  • heavy, vibration-reducing design
  • quick-action sensor technology and hydraulic system for automatic adaptation to the workpiece outline during grinding
  • regular material removal during surface grinding
  • grinding head infinitely adjustable in the grinding axis between 90 and 45°
  • grinding pressure adjustable between 50 and 1000 kg
  • extremely powerful driving motor
  • sturdy, high-acceleration grinding carriage; maximum traversing speeds possible
  • maximum removal capacities possible
  • minimum thermal effect on the structure of the ground material
  • minimum noise level
  • fully automatic operation including visualization and data logging
  • clearly arranged and ergonomically designed control cabin
  • chip separation according to grade (e.g. to alloy)

BRAUN - innovation of HP surface grinding

  • selective product innovation in cooperation with the later plant owner
  • continuous and customized product development
  • intensive cooperation with major grinding wheel manufacturers
  • application-specific cooperation with renowned manufacturers of semifinished products (e.g. owners of rolling mills and forges)
  • compete mechanical & electrical engineering by BRAUN
  • in-house fabrication and assembly of all key components
  • team of experienced and dedicated experts
  • know-how developed and continuously extended on the basis of our own experience
  • sound knowledge of overall grinding system (machine - tool - material)
  • complete and customized grinding plants, tailor-made to meet the requirements of our customers

Material handling and automation systems

BRAUN also has the know-how for specifically designed material handling systems to optimize the operation of your abrasive cut-off machines and HP surface grinding machines. From individual conveying units to the turn-key overall plant: BRAUN provides you with the tailor-made solution for your application.

Visualization - everything at a glance

BRAUN also supplies control and automation systems for all plants. Apart from visualization and logging of plant and process data an interconnection to control systems of upstream and downstream plant parts (such as a rolling mill) as well as interfacing to a host computer is possible.

The engineering for hardware and software is completely developed by BRAUN, and all electronic units such as switchgear cabinets, control desks, etc. are assembled, wired and thoroughly tested in our house. We apply only proven components made by renowned manufacturers that are available world-wide. In the course of commissioning of the whole plant on site all functions are tested again, and all settings are optimized with a view to industrial production.
