ANDRITZ Maerz TBRC

The ANDRITZ Maerz TBRC (Top Blown Rotary Converter) is a general purpose unit for the copper and precious metals production. A central feature of the TBRC is a consequently high melting and refining efficiency. Typical input materials are copper scrap of different qualities, precious metalcontaining alloys of the lead production and anode slime from the copper electrolysis. Depending on the task, different water-cooled lances are used for melting, oxidation and reduction.

Responsible for the high efficiency is next to the use of oxygen technology the variable rotation speed of the vessel. Due to the rotation during the melting process, the hot lining is continuously turned underneath the cold charged material, leading to an optimized heating efficiency. In addition, the refining process is accelerated by the continuous mixing of the liquid bath. For casting or deslagging, the whole converter vessel can be tilt to cast into launders or ladles. Capacities from 5 to 50 t and even more can be realized by using different designs.

Tiltable reverberatory furnaces

The ANDRITZ Maerz tiltable reverberatory furnace has successfully been proven in the secondary copper industry. Large quantities of lower-grade copper scrap can be melted and refined in a single unit. Capacities between 50 and 500 t have been implemented.

 

Drum-type furnaces

ANDRITZ Maerz drum-type furnaces are mainly used for refining of liquid copper from upstream melting furnaces in primary and secondary metallurgy. They can be used as anode furnaces, refining furnaces for copper rod or Peirce Smith converters. Drum type furnaces can also be designed to handle solid scrap input. Capacities from 20 to 630 t have been implemented.

 

Direct-to-Wire

The ANDRITZ Maerz Direct-To-Wire-technology is a fire refining technology for the optimized production of liquid fire refined high conductivity copper (FRHC copper) for the rod production from copper scrap. The liquid FRHC copper can directly be used in the following wire rod casting and rolling process. The technology is based on the long experience of ANDRITZ Maerz for furnace building and due to its flexibility.

ANDRITZ Maerz, shaft and hearth-shaft furnaces

For the efficient melting of different copper qualities, ANDRITZ Maerz offers shaft and hearth-shaft furnaces. The shaft furnace allows to melt copper cathodes, anode residues and high-grade copper scrap with a very high energy efficiency. The high efficiency is achieved by a special burner system with a single-burner control and optimized furnace geometry. The feedstock is charged into the shaft with a skip hoist. Burners are mounted radially around the lower shaft section and provide the melting energy. The waste gases travel upwards through the shaft to preheat the solid scrap in the upper part of the shaft. The liquid copper can be supplied by means of a ladle or launder to the following process step.

The hearth shaft furnace is additionally equipped with a hearth which allows the holding deslagging and maybe further treatment of the liquid copper. Due to that fact, also scrap of low quality can be used. The molten copper is transferred via launders to refining furnaces. Production capacities of up to 90 t/h can be realized.

Heating furnaces for AL: pusher type, pit, car bottom

ANDRITZ METALS Inc. (Bricmont) offers a range of furnaces to re-heat or homogenize aluminum ingots prior to hot rolling and then annealing of coils after cold rolling.

Several airflow designs are offered each designed to suit the customer’s specific ingot thickness range and market segment. In addition to the normal travers nozzle design optimized for a normal ingot thickness range ANDRITZ Bricmont has special designs available which are capable of heating a very wide range of ingot thicknesses efficiently.

Re-heating and homogenizing is carried out in a step-continuous process for high production volumes.

 

Pit and car bottom furnaces are used to reheat or homogenize aluminum ingots in relatively small batches and provide the ideal solution where production flexibility is of paramount importance.

These furnaces can be used to re-heat or homogenize ingots and provide a very economical solution for customers' production needs. Both furnace types feature powerful air circulation systems and fuel-fired or electrical resistance heating strategies can be specified.

Low NOx and ultra-low NOx burners from the Tri X100 and Tri ZF100 (zero flame combustion) series operate with an optimized mixture of fuel, combustion air, and high recirculation of flue gas.

Oxygen is limited in the primary combustion area, so the adiabatic flame temperature will not be reached and a significant reduction is achieved in NOx formation.

Full combustion of the fuel is achieved by adding secondary air and takes place in a large-volume area almost without any visible flame (flameless combustion).

ANDRITZ FBB, regenerative burner systems

Due to rising energy costs and the need for energy efficiency, reduction of NOx formation and of CO2 emissions, regenerative combustion is becoming increasingly popular. Preheating the combustion air is a highly effective way to increase the efficiency and productivity of industrial furnaces.

Regenerative combustion systems use pairs of burners working together. When one regenerative burner is firing with preheated combustion air, the other one applies suction to remove the furnace off-gases that preheat the corresponding regenerator. The energy from flue products is recovered and stored. When the regenerator is fully heated, the burners switch round. The regenerative burner currently firing is turned off and starts to remove the flue products by suction, while the second one starts firing. Combustion air passes through the regenerator and is heated to temperatures close to the furnace/process temperature.
