Kalugin Shaftless Stoves

Kalugin Shaftless Stove of Top Combustion Design (KSS) was invented by Iakov Kalugin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences and the company founder.

This stove design has no combustion chamber, which makes it possible to avoid disadvantages connected with the combustion chamber used in traditional internal or external combustion stoves.

The burner of “pre-chamber” type with jet-vortex flow of gas and air is installed at the top of the dome. It provides almost full combustion of gas before it goes to the checker.

The advantages of Kalugin Shaftless Stove are as follows:

• The stoves fit well into the existing dimensions of the system in the process of reconstruction.
• Standard equipment is used.
• There is no “short-circuit” in these stoves.
• There is no pulsating combustion in all operating modes.
• Resistance of the hot stove to the burner is insignificant and available gas pressure is sufficient.
• Distribution of combustion products along the checker is rather even (95-97%).
• Operation with gas and combustion air preheated up to 600°C is possible.
• The checker supporting grid of beamless design allows operating with the maximum waste gas temperature of 500°C.
• Hexagonal checker bricks with the heating surface of 48 m2/m3 and 64 m2/m3 are used.
• The achieved hot blast temperature is 1300°C. It is possible to achieve the hot blast temperature of 1400°C with the use of common refractory materials (silica, mullite-corundum, fireclay).
• The service life is 30 years without major repairs.
• The stoves have small dimensions. Saving of refractory materials in the process of construction is 30-50%.

About us

Company details

Kalugin JSC was founded in 2000 in Ekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk Region, Russian Federation) and at present the company ranks among the world leaders in development of blast heating technologies and invention of high-temperature hot-air stoves for blast furnaces at iron and steel works in Russia and abroad. The company became internationally known due to application of the unique technology invented by Iakov Kalugin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences and the company founder.

By now the unique design of the top combustion hot stove called KSS after its inventor (Kalugin Shaftless Stove) has been patented in Russia, China and Ukraine and is being patented in some other countries of the world. This hot stove design is characterized by high reliability and sustainability and small capital expenditures for construction. Nowadays Kalugin Shaftless Stoves (KSS) can provide heating of blast up to 1400°C.

The first Kalugin Shaftless Stoves were constructed in Russia for Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works and Severstal. In foreign countries the biggest number of Kalugin Shaftless Stoves was installed in China. KSS were also constructed and put into operation in Japan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, India, Turkey, Indonesia; KSS are being constructed in Syria and Brazil. In total more than 150 KSS are already in operation and more than 50 KSS are being designed and constructed.

Kalugin JCS continuously improves the design of the hot stoves, their technical, economic and environmental performance. The company provides engineering, construction and maintenance of its hot stoves.
