BARYTE

Baryte or barite (BaSO4) is a mineral consisting of bariumsulfate and is derived from the Greek word βαρύς (heavy). The barite group consists of baryte, celestine, anglesite and anhydrite. Baryte is generally white or colorless, and is the main source of barium. Baryte and celestine form a solid solution (Ba,Sr)SO4. Baryte used for drilling petroleum wells can be black, blue, brown or gray depending on the ore body.

The major demand for baryte worldwide is as a weighting agent for drilling fluids in oil and gas exploration to suppress high formation pressures and prevent blowouts. An additional benefit of baryte is that it is non-magnetic and thus does not interfere with magnetic measurements taken in the borehole. The American Petroleum Institute specification API 13/ISO 13500 governs baryte for drilling purposes.

FOUNDRY GRADE CHROMITE SAND

Foundry grade CHROMITE sands are not only used as casting sands in cores and moulds in steel and iron foundries, but also as base material in sliding gate mixes or plugging sands in ladles at steelworks.

HEMATITE ( IRON ORE / IRONOXIDE )

Iron ores are rich in iron oxides and vary in color from dark grey, bright yellow, deep purple, to rusty red. The iron itself is usually found in the form of magnetite (Fe3O4), hematite (Fe2O3), goethite, limonite or siderite. The name Hematite, also spelled as Haematite, originates from the Greek word for blood ‘haima’, because hematite in powdered form can be red.   Because of its color, hematite is used in the pigment industry (building products and glass). Other specific characteristics make hematite suitable to use in for example foundry applications (in exothermic products and as core additive) and in the welding and oil-drilling industry.
