EUnited Metallurgy Working Groups

To support our members in European and international issues, working groups will be established on a case by case basis. Subject-matter experts work together to achieve specified goals, e.g. creation of an informational document or a position paper to communicate the common point of view. EUnited Metallurgy working groups are a platform to define visions and discuss future prospects for the metallurgical industry in Europe.

EUnited Metallurgy works very closely with selected CEN TCs to develop Technical Reports for the interpretation and explanation of the standards as well as the Machinery Directive in consideration of machine- and plant-specific boundary conditions and special features.

Standing Committee Technical Regulations

EUnited Metallurgy established Standing Committee "Technical Regulations"

During acquisition talks with customers, technical issues related to the interpretation and interaction of European directives, regulations and standards are being discussed controversially in many cases. To be able to react at short notice and give qualified statements a Standing Committee "Technical Regulations" was established by EUnited Metallurgy.

The work of the Standing Committee does strictly comply with the EUnited Code of Conduct.

Position papers elaborated by the Standing Committee are only for guidance and give an overview regarding aspects to be considered when applying specific European directives and technical regulations. They neither claim to cover any aspect of the matter, nor does they reflect all legal aspects in detail. They are not meant to, and cannot, replace own knowledge of the pertaining directives, laws and regulations. Furthermore, the specific characteristics of the individual products and the various possible applications have to be taken into account. This is why, apart from the assessments and procedures addressed in the position papers, many other scenarios may apply.

Construction Products Regulation versus Machinery Directive

This has been triggered by different interpretations of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Usually customers require a certification according to the CPR, while plant suppliers do not consider the necessity. The Standing Committee verified that the CPR does not apply for the plant manufacturers as long as they follow the Machinery Directive and C-Type Standards. A position paper was released which helps to gain clarity in discussions and to save several ten thousand euros on certification costs for equipment suppliers.
