Adhesives for molds and cores

The products of this group are widely used in foundries. They are used for permanent binding, sealing or repair of molds and cores. Proper selection of the right adhesive has a fundamental impact on the quality of the castings produced.

Hüttenes-Albertus has appropriate adhesives for various types of applications and at the same time new products are developed according to the needs of customers.

HA products can be divided into four groups due to the type of application and chemical composition:

Cold hardening adhesives (Kaltkleber) adhesives based on water glass of various viscosities, universal, hardened in air or by heating, which accelerates the curing process.

Hot-hardened adhesives (Heißkleber) polysaccharide-based adhesives, hardened by drying, used especially for hot-box and cold-box sandwich materials.

Adhesives for shell forms (Maskenkleber) adhesives based on thermally hardened synthetic resins, curing reaction proceeds analogously to the Croning process, designed for such processes as hot-box.

Additives for molding and sputter compounds

The products of this group are used in foundries where wet molding materials with bentonite as binder are used.   They consist of starch products with different swelling capacity in cold water mixed in part with inorganic components that, as additional binders or buffer materials, act on wet molding compounds.   A pure swelling binder exists under the name QUELLKERNOL. The bentonite-starch mixtures (also used for plasticizing conventional oil masses) are called QUELLBINDER, ALBERTINE - a blend of starch with aluminosilicates is used to modify the wet molding sands most often used for hand-made molds.   Starch and starch binders have a positive effect in wet molding materials on:

  • tendency to dry
  • tendency to scabs
  • erosive action of metal
  • the ability to bind water
  • tensile strength wet.
