Having completed its certification according to the performance standards of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), the TRIMET site in Essen now meets the globally applicable demands for ecologically and socially sustainable production as well as responsible business management in the aluminium industry. This is true both for the company’s aluminium works and the foundry. TRIMET was audited by TÜV Nord Cert GmbH, who for their certification evaluated the areas of development, production and sales of primary and recycled aluminium in cast and liquid form.
“With the certification of our production sites in Essen, we continue to consistently pursue our strategy of sustainability”, says Philipp Schlüter, Chief Executive Officer at TRIMET Aluminium SE. “As a local producer of aluminium, we guarantee the supply of an important raw material to the industry. With sustainable products, we contribute to reaching the global climate goals while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of our production sites.”
The company from Essen wants to produce carbon-neutral aluminium by 2045. Therefore, it constantly invests into modernising production plants and developing new technologies. The sites in Essen are another step forward in this process. Previously, the recycling plant in Gelsenkirchen and the aluminium works in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne as well as the foundry in Castelsarrasin were certified according to the ASI performance standards. The other company sites will be shortly certified as well.
ASI is headquartered in Australia and is a non-profit organisation working towards responsible production, procurement and processing of aluminium along the entire value creation chain. Their focus is on the issues of climate change, circular economy, protection of the environment and human rights. Among the more than 270 members are producers and fabricators of aluminium as well as leading associations of civil society.
