In recent years, the company FOSECO has added several functions and innovations to FDU and MTS technologies for the automatic treatment of aluminium melts. The developments help foundries gain more control over the treatment process.
With the SMARTT degassing software, the operator only has to define the target quality of the melt. To achieve this goal, the software calculates the best treatment method, taking into account environmental conditions such as melt temperature, rotor design and alloy composition.
Several modes are available to the operator for optimisation to reduce inert gas consumption, minimise degasser wear or achieve the fastest degassing and treatment speed. An individual reporting system records all parameters and the treatment parameters are automatically forwarded to the FDU/MTS plant.
The updated granulated flux product range currently includes COVERAL, SIMODAL and NUCLEANT. These cover the most important processes such as cleaning, drossing, modification and grain refinement. During development, the aim was to reduce smoke and fumes to a minimum.
Granulated flux can be dispensed via an automated MTS. The advantages: During casting, the flowability of the melt is improved, fewer inclusions are formed and the mechanical properties are improved. Here, the dosing mechanism uses a gravimetric load cell to achieve high dosing accuracy. This ensures the best metallurgical results as well as repeatability and traceability. To enable efficient degassing as well as a long service life, the design of the shaft as well as the rotor is continuously improved. This results in dross with low aluminium content, which improves material efficiency and thus reduces costs.
