Platform for automated particle analysis

In releasing a new solution, Berlin-based IBFT, an authorised Thermo Scientific distributor in Germany, has combined the Phenom XL benchtop SEM with the ParticleX software. This, it says, has created a powerful platform for automated analysis of particle size and shape combined with chemical X-ray microanalysis (EDX).

ParticleX is a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and EDX solution for quality analysis in an in-house laboratory setting. The company states that the new solution will deliver quick, precise and reproducible analysis. Phenom ParticleX is fully automated and offers pre-set classification rules that can be adapted to the specific measurement task to be performed. It is capable of morphologically and chemically analysing up to 30,000 particles an hour. As a result, the combination of Phenom XL/EDX and ParticleX is expected to make analysis up to ten times faster than other systems. Outsourcing analytical tasks to an external partner usually takes several working days, whereas Phenom ParticleX delivers results within just a few hours, according to the firm. The solution promises to be user-friendly, with the ability to quickly adjust the recipes, processes and access privileges for the task at hand. In addition, Phenom XL will continue to be available to use for routine SEM/EDX applications.
