Global automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler has announced the acquisition of 100 percent of the shares in ECO-Adapt SAS. ECO-Adapt SAS provides innovative condition monitoring solutions based on electrical signal analysis. The company additionally offers systems for optimizing energy consumption.
With this acquisition, Schaeffler's Industrial division is expanding its Lifetime Solutions portfolio and further strengthening its position in the field of digitally supported predictive maintenance. The company already offers a wide range of solutions and services for industrial maintenance that cover the entire service life of a machine. From heating and alignment tools to condition monitoring solutions and a wide range of lubricants and matching automatic lubricators.
Complementing existing solutions
Today, OPTIME Condition Monitoring already offers a reliable solution for predictive maintenance of industrial machinery based on signal analysis of vibration and temperature data. Based on the analysis of electrical signals, ECO-Adapt can complete this offering by providing maintenance information, providing additional security against potential failures of electrical components.
Operators have the advantage of being able to cover both mechanical and electrical problems with a holistic predictive maintenance system. Long operation of existing machines is also valuable on a sustainable level.
Energy consumption is optimized
ECO-Adapt's product line offers a comprehensive range of products that also cover customers' energy monitoring requirements. One of the frequent customer requests is easy implementation and use of monitoring, which is ensured by ECO-Adapt. The product line also offers multiphase metering to improve industrial submetering, with a fully cloud-based solution, including customized analytics and dashboards. Energy monitoring enables optimization of energy consumption and provides information to determine optimal machine operating points in the most energy-intensive industries, such as cement, steel, pulp and paper, and more.
"Condition monitoring of all critical powertrain components is a challenge for our customers across all industries. Our customers need scalable and holistic monitoring solutions that provide detailed insights into the condition of the mechanical as well as electrical components of electric motors in rotating machinery. Through our collaboration with ECO-Adapt, we can provide our customers with best-in-class services and solutions for both bearings and components of electric drive technologies - throughout the entire lifecycle," explains Rauli Hantikainen, Head of Schaeffler Lifetime Solutions Strategic Business Unit.
ECO-Adapt
Founded in 2012, Paris-based ECO-Adapt combines smart hardware with data analytics to develop solutions for analyzing and optimizing energy consumption and predictive maintenance of rotating electrical machines. They are also used in commercial properties.
"Schaeffler is the ideal owner and partner for us to continue our successful course in the future. With Schaeffler's expertise in industrial automation, we can scale our offering and win new customers. Combining our strengths in R&D will enable us to bring innovative condition monitoring products to the market," said Laurent Laparra, CEO of ECO-Adapt.
The acquisition is being made by means of a purchase agreement for the acquisition of 100 percent of the shares in Eco-Adapt S.A.S. The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction, which is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023. The closing is subject to the fulfillment of customary closing conditions.
Expansion of the "Roadmap 2025"
The strategic direction formulated in "Roadmap 2025" is driving Schaeffler's expansion of its portfolio of asset lifecycle products and services. The Industrial division offers Schaefflers' customers a comprehensive range of products and services to successfully meet current challenges and seize opportunities as they arise. The goal is to increase planning reliability for plant operators and to maximize the service life of bearings and machinery as well as their reliability.
To strengthen Schaeffler's Lifetime Solutions portfolio, the acquisition of ECO-Adapt is another strategic step. It follows the acquisition of BEGA International B.V. (Bega) in 2021, a leading manufacturer of special tools for mounting and dismounting rolling bearings.
