Winoa Ibérica celebrates 90 years of excellence in surface preparation

Founded in Balmaseda, Spain, Winoa Ibérica has evolved from a manufacturer of welding electrodes into a trusted name for steel grit and grit.

Key milestones include:

• 1950s: Transition to steel abrasives and establishment as the market leader in Spain.
• 1992: Joined the Winoa Group, thereby gaining access to global markets and advanced technologies.
• 2018: Opening of a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly production facility, considered the most advanced in the world.

Today, Winoa Ibérica remains at the forefront of sustainable and efficient solutions, supplying world-class abrasives to industry worldwide.

90th-anniversary celebrations: a look to the future

To mark this milestone, Winoa Ibérica is introducing new sustainability initiatives and innovative product ranges. One key project is Granalum™, through which Winoa collects used abrasives from customers, returns them to the factory and reconditions them for a second life – thus closing the sustainability loop.

In addition, Winoa Ibérica is expanding its range of durable shot blasting spare parts, including shot blasting wheels, protective guards, linings, impellers and control cages. The company also offers specialist maintenance and training services for its customers’ shot blasting systems, underlining its commitment to environmental responsibility and industry innovation.

Winoa Ibérica has been certified to ISO 90001, 14001 and 45001 – and, more recently, 50001 – and is committed to meeting the highest international standards in order to offer its customers consistent quality, outstanding performance and continuous improvement.

A global player with local roots

As part of the Winoa Group, now under the management of Sintokogio, Winoa Ibérica plays a strategic role in the global abrasives market. The 37,000 m² plant in Balmaseda, 15,000 m² of which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, features high-performance induction and heat treatment furnaces as well as a fully automated packaging area. With a workforce of almost 60, the plant produces over 30,000 tonnes of steel grit and Premium™ abrasives, placing great emphasis on sustainable production and product innovation.
