FSP GmbH opens new foundry sand regeneration facility in Stuttgart
FSP Managing Director Stefan Zimmermann emphasised the company’s objectives in his speech: “We are investing in modern technology, sustainable processes and closed-loop material cycles – in the very best sense of the circular economy: creating something new from something old.”
Among the guests of honour were State Secretary Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (Federal Ministry for the Environment), Dr André Baumann (Ministry of the Environment of Baden-Württemberg), Nina Steinemann (Mercedes-Benz AG) and Elke Radtke (Federal Association of the Foundry Industry).
Exemplary funding and technology
The Federal Ministry for the Environment is supporting the project as part of the Environmental Innovation Programme with over one million euros. The new plant can process up to 16,500 tonnes of moulding sand annually – with an energy recovery rate of around 70 per cent.
“This shows what happens when entrepreneurial courage, technological innovation and environmental awareness come together,” said Schwarzelühr-Sutter.
’s State Secretary Dr André Baumann also praised the project as a “beacon for industry”, demonstrating “how resource efficiency, climate protection and competitiveness can be combined.”
A regional approach to the circular economy – Partnership with Mercedes-Benz and local value creation
Alexander Feeß, Managing Director of the Feeß Group and co-founder of FSP GmbH, recalled in his speech how the idea came about: A meeting with partners from Cologne and Mercedes-Benz four years ago provided the impetus. “At first, Rhineland cheerfulness met Swabian scepticism – but the idea fascinated us,” said Feeß.
With the founding of FSP in mid-2022, the vision became a reality. The patented, energy-saving process makes it possible to reuse up to 95 per cent of foundry sand – an important step towards conserving resources and creating regional value. “After just a short time, we were able to deliver the first lorries of regenerated sand – this time not over hundreds of kilometres, but less than ten.”
Feeß thanked all partners, in particular Mercedes-Benz, the authorities, the financiers and his team: “This is the circular economy as it should be – efficient, sustainable and regional.”

With the new plant, FSP GmbH is strengthening Stuttgart as a centre of innovation and demonstrating that industry, environmental awareness and economic efficiency can successfully complement one another.
