Bühler Group and Seojin System reach a milestone with the installation of two Carat 920 Megacasting solutions

In February 2025, the Bühler Group completed the installation of the first of two state-of-the-art Megacasting machines, each with a clamping force of 92,000 kilonewtons (kN), at Seojin System’s factory in Vietnam. Leading industry and government representatives attended an inauguration ceremony organised by Seojin System. With this achievement, the two companies have taken a significant step forward in their partnership, underlining their shared commitment to further developing production capacities in the field of EV parts supply.

Thomas Gass, Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, emphasised that the combination of innovative Swiss technology, Vietnamese industrial determination and Korean experience and reach in the automotive industry improves production efficiency and makes supply chains stronger and more resilient. He was joined by Jun Dong Kyu, President of Seojin System, and Cornel Mendler, Managing Director of Die Casting at Bühler. During the event, discussions focused on the automotive sector and the strategic role of Tier 1 suppliers from Vietnam. Jun Dong Kyu highlighted Seojin System’s expertise in supplying automotive castings to original equipment manufacturers worldwide. “With Bühler’s innovative solutions, we gain a significant competitive advantage in supplying high-quality automotive castings across the globe. Thanks to Bühler’s cutting-edge technology – combined with Vietnam’s strategic advantages in terms of logistics, tax incentives and a skilled workforce – we can maximise efficiency and strengthen our position in the global supply chain,” he said.

Cornel Mendler expressed his appreciation for Seojin’s expertise and significant investments in technology and a skilled workforce, and emphasised the strength of the partnership between Bühler and Seojin. “This partnership highlights the synergy between Bühler’s innovative solutions and Seojin’s capabilities, and strengthens our combined strengths and our role in reshaping the automotive sector,” said Cornel Mendler. “Since the start of our partnership in 2019, Seojin has not only invested in Bühler’s solutions but also in its experts to ensure the supply of high-quality parts to global original equipment manufacturers.” Bühler’s Megacasting cells at Seojin in Vietnam were the first and remain the only ones of their kind in South-East Asia.

Factory tour highlights innovation

The delegates toured the Seojin System factory, where they saw the Carat 920 die-casting machine in operation. Bühler’s engineers are currently installing the second Megacasting cell, which will expand Seojin’s production capacity. Each cell can produce up to 200,000 parts per year for electric vehicles, such as battery trays and rear underbodies. This latest installation builds on the ongoing collaboration between the companies, which began with the Carat 610 project in 2019. The additional Carat 920 machines will strengthen Seojin’s production capacity and expand its foundry operations. Megacasting technology enables the production of larger components. It also improves manufacturing efficiency, reduces material waste and supports more sustainable production processes.

However, the expansion plans go even further: Seojin System is already constructing another factory, due to be completed in 2025. Seojin also plans to collaborate with local partners to supply die-cast components to companies in the automotive supply chain in Vietnam.

A groundbreaking technology

Bühler has been a leader in die-casting technology for almost a century. The Carat series was developed to meet the growing demand for larger structural castings in modern vehicle manufacturing. The series features a two-platen technology with clamping forces ranging from 10,500 to 92,000 kN, enabling the production of large and complex components. By replacing up to 100 individual parts with a single die-cast structure, Megacasting simplifies assembly, reduces welding and joining processes, minimises material waste and improves vehicle performance through lighter and stiffer designs. This approach also reduces logistical requirements and energy consumption, thereby contributing to more sustainable production.

With production facilities in Europe, the USA and China, Bühler maintains a regional production network to better serve its customers. Today, more than 900 Carat machines are in operation worldwide, making them one of the most widely used solutions in the industry.
