Founded in 2001, the company marks its anniversary in 2026 with around 165 employees, approximately 2,500 completed projects and some 70,000 service assignments across more than 60 countries. Now operating as part of Japan's Sinto Group, the company is preparing for its next stage of development.

Success Story of Sinto AGTOS

Looking back, some business success stories may appear almost destined to happen. In reality, however, they often begin with courage, practical experience and a strong entrepreneurial mindset.

To mark 25 years since its foundation, Sinto AGTOS celebrated the anniversary at its Emsdetten site with employees, guests and long-standing companions from near and far. Managing Director Andreas Bügener and Hermann Walkenhorst used the occasion to reflect on an eventful 25-year history while looking ahead with confidence and a clear sense of purpose.

AGTOS officially began operations on October 1, 2001. At the time, a small team of experienced shot-blasting specialists had taken the decision to establish their own business. Their initial objective was straightforward: providing service for existing shot-blasting machines.

It soon became apparent, however, that the team could contribute considerably more than maintenance and service expertise. The company developed its first proprietary shot-blasting machine in its inaugural year. This marked the beginning of a gradual transition from a service provider to a machine manufacturer.

A Quarter-Century of Expansion and Technical Expertise

AGTOS experienced rapid growth during its early years. In 2003, the company moved into its office building and production hall in Emsdetten. During the same period, a second facility was established in Konin, Poland, complementing the German operation.

Within just a few years, the workforce had grown to more than 100 employees. Today, approximately 165 people work across the company's two locations.

The production and project figures accumulated over the past 25 years reflect the scale of this development. AGTOS has manufactured and delivered 792 new shot-blasting machines. A further 235 pre-owned machines have been modified, optimized or refurbished for continued use. Altogether, the company has completed around 2,500 projects, covering everything from consulting and new equipment to conversions, modernization work and repairs.

The service record is equally noteworthy. Over the past quarter-century, the company has carried out approximately 70,000 service assignments in more than 60 countries.

These figures reflect a central principle that has guided AGTOS throughout its history: the company's role extends beyond selling individual machines. Maintaining long-term relationships and providing ongoing support to customers have always been equally important.

A Customer-Focused Approach to Complete Solutions

Today, Sinto AGTOS is pursuing this philosophy with an even stronger focus.

Rather than regarding itself solely as a manufacturer of shot-blasting equipment, the company begins with the customer's specific application. Which challenge needs to be addressed? How is the production process structured? And which machine, automation concept or modernization measure offers the greatest technical and economic benefits?

This approach brings together engineering capabilities, industry experience and an in-depth understanding of individual applications. The resulting portfolio includes standardized machines, modular systems, custom-engineered equipment and retrofit solutions.

Modernizing existing machinery is becoming an increasingly important part of the business. Robust, durable machines can be upgraded with new controls, components and processes, potentially extending their productive service life by another ten to 15 years. Looking ahead, Sinto AGTOS plans to apply its modernization expertise not only to its own installed equipment but also to machines from other manufacturers and brands.

The company's approach can be expressed in four steps: understand, advise, implement and support.

Strategic Partnerships Open Up New Possibilities

Cooperation with external partners provides a further example of how the company is developing its capabilities. One such partnership is with Ocean Machinery in Fort Lauderdale, USA. For its American partner, AGTOS developed the Ocean Blaster, of which more than 80 units have since been manufactured.

Automation is another area gaining importance. Over recent years, Sinto AGTOS and its partners have introduced new system concepts that integrate shot-blasting technology with automated workpiece handling.

A current example is a batch-drum shot-blasting system developed in collaboration with WMV. According to the company, the integrated system can reduce cycle times by up to 34 percent compared with the previous process, while maintaining a high degree of process reliability.

These developments illustrate the company's direction: the emphasis is increasingly moving beyond individual machines towards optimizing entire production processes.

Joining the Sinto Group: A Strategic Milestone in 2024

The most consequential strategic development in the company's recent history took place towards the end of 2024.

After a due diligence process lasting approximately two years, Japan's SINTOKOGIO Group completed its acquisition of the company in December. Following the transaction, AGTOS adopted the name Sinto AGTOS GmbH.

For AGTOS, joining Sinto represents much more than a change of ownership. The group has a worldwide network of more than 70 companies and extensive experience in foundry technology, surface treatment and industrial manufacturing.

In 2025, Sinto AGTOS began substantially expanding its cooperation with companies and partners across this international network.

One of the main benefits is renewed momentum for internationalization. Existing sales structures can be linked more closely, technological synergies can be exploited, and products developed within the Sinto Group can be adapted to the specific requirements of European customers.

Bringing Japanese Technology in Line with European Markets

The first new products already demonstrate how this cooperation is being translated into practice. Technologies developed within the Sinto Group are being incorporated and adapted to European market expectations, including requirements relating to control systems, filtration technology and machine configurations.

At the same time, Sinto AGTOS continues to develop its own product range.

In addition to large-scale, customized installations, the company intends to introduce more compact products with clearly defined specifications. Planned additions include new satellite-table, roller-conveyor and drum-type shot-blasting machines, alongside other standardized equipment concepts.

This creates a modular portfolio that spans clearly specified standard machines, configurable systems and fully customized installations.

Across all these options, the underlying principle remains unchanged: the objective is not to provide the greatest possible amount of technology, but to identify the solution that best meets the needs of each individual application.

A Refreshed Brand Identity Reflects the Company's Evolution

Sinto AGTOS is also using its 25th anniversary to communicate its development and future ambitions more clearly to the outside world.

A new corporate design, a new corporate film and a more clearly defined brand positioning are intended to show how the company is preparing for the coming years.

The transformation goes beyond a new logo or visual appearance. The brand is designed to represent the strengths developed over the past 25 years: technical expertise, application knowledge, engineering capabilities and service competence, increasingly complemented by the opportunities offered through an international corporate network.

The underlying philosophy is straightforward. Finding the right solution does not necessarily start with selecting a particular machine. Instead, the first step is to establish what the customer needs to achieve. Only then can the appropriate technology be determined.

This principle applies throughout the portfolio, from standard products and customized systems to retrofit projects and long-term after-sales support.

Looking Beyond the Anniversary: The Next 25 Years

The anniversary celebrations made one thing clear: Sinto AGTOS sees its 25th birthday not simply as an opportunity to reflect on past achievements, but also as a starting point for further development.

Plans for continued growth are already taking shape. The company intends to broaden its product portfolio, reinforce its international sales activities and make greater use of the Sinto network. It is also evaluating further development opportunities at its existing locations.

Sinto AGTOS can build on foundations that take years to establish: a quarter-century of experience in shot-blasting technology, thousands of completed projects and enduring relationships with customers and business partners.

What began in 2001 as a small team of specialists with an idea has evolved into an internationally active provider of shot-blasting technology and solutions. Its integration into the Sinto Group now opens the door to the next phase of this development.

The company's new brand promise captures this ambition in a concise statement:

“Sinto AGTOS – the right solution. Always.”
