The Bright World of Metals on an expansion course: Messe Düsseldorf expands its portfolio with GIFA Mexico 2024
With GIFA Mexico, taking place from 16 to 18 October 2024 in Mexico City, Messe Düsseldorf is not only providing companies from Mexico and the wider region with a new platform for the global metallurgy and foundry industry, but is also offering international exhibitors and industry experts a unique opportunity to expand their business relationships and gain a foothold in the emerging Mexican market. Together with the world’s leading trade fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST – which will take place under the banner ‘The Bright World of Metals’ from 12 to 16 June 2023 at their home base in Düsseldorf, alongside their satellite events in India, South-East Asia and Indonesia, GIFA Mexico will become the hub for innovation, expertise and business opportunities in the metalworking sectors next year.
Düsseldorf/Mexico City, 13 June 2023. As an emerging economy situated between the USA and Latin America, Mexico is becoming increasingly significant and, thanks to its key location, represents an important growth market for the global foundry and metallurgy industries. Demand for castings is rising, particularly strongly from the Mexican automotive industry. With a total value of USD 41.6 billion, cars are the country’s most important export goods, followed by vehicle parts (USD 27.1 billion), computers (USD 31.5 billion) and vans (USD 23.8 billion). A large proportion of metal casting production can be broken down into aluminium, grey cast iron (29 per cent each) and ductile cast iron (20 per cent). Well over half of production (63 per cent) goes to the automotive sector, where an increasing number of international industrial groups are also establishing production plants in Mexico. Key reasons for Messe Düsseldorf to enter the Mexican market, initially as a joint venture with GIFA Mexico as part of the established Mexican trade fair FUNDIEXPO. GIFA Mexico is scheduled to take place every two years from 2024.
“Mexico is a booming international location that offers enormous growth potential, particularly for the foundry industry. We are therefore logically expanding Messe Düsseldorf’s ‘
’ portfolio ‘Metallurgy & Foundry Technologies’ with GIFA Mexico. Following METEC India (2004), GIFA and METEC Southeast Asia (2022), GIFA and METEC Middle East Asia (2023), and GIFA and METEC Indonesia (2023), GIFA Mexico marks the next milestone,” says Malte Seifert, Director of the Metals, Energy & Autonomous Technologies portfolio.
Since 1960, FUNDIEXPO, the leading trade fair for the metal and foundry industry, has been a fixture on the Mexican events calendar. It is organised by Messe Düsseldorf’s internationally active partner, the Mexican Foundry Society, A.C. (Sociedad Mexicana de Fundidores, A.C./SMFAC).
Mexico’s appeal to foreign investment is evident from the fact that 1,900 companies from Germany are already operating there. Furthermore, Mexico is a priority country for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). With a population of just under 130 million, vast oil and gas reserves, and rich mineral resources such as gold, silver, lead, zinc and copper, Mexico offers an attractive environment, particularly for European and German investors, and is regarded as the ‘extended workbench’ of the USA.
GIFA Mexico will showcase a comprehensive range of machinery, plant, materials and technological innovations, ranging from additive manufacturing and foundry machinery to castings for various end-user industries – from the automotive sector, the construction industry and the energy and gas sectors right through to users in metal and steelworks.
Anyone wishing to exhibit at GIFA Mexico as part of the FUNDIEXPO from 16 to 18 October 2024 can register with Sarah Möller at MoellerS@messe-duesseldorf.de. Further information will be available shortly at www.gifa-mexico.com.
