Leonardo Turini has taken up the post of Secretary-General at AMAFOND. The association represents the Italian foundry supply industry and brings together companies that supply machinery, equipment, melting and heat treatment systems, die-casting solutions, raw materials and services for ferrous and non-ferrous foundries.

Turini succeeds Fabrizio Carmagnini. AMAFOND sees this change as an opportunity to adopt a stronger international focus and provide closer support to its member companies in global markets. The association aims not only to respond to current market changes, but also to support its members more actively in international networking, collaboration and market development.

His appointment comes at a special time for the association: AMAFOND was founded in 1946 and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026. The anniversary will also serve to focus attention on the future development of the Italian foundry supply sector.

International experience for the association’s work

Turini brings international experience from trade, export management and industry. After completing a Master’s degree in Political Science and an Executive Master’s in Export Management, he worked in the United States for eight years. There, he worked for the Italian trade agency ICE in Miami and Chicago.

He also completed specialist training with the Los Angeles Customs Brokers Association. This enabled him to gain expertise in international trade, customs procedures and the management of global supply chains. Further career moves took him to markets such as Europe, India, the United States and Mexico.

This international perspective is central to his new role at AMAFOND. Turini aims to forge stronger links between Italian engineering excellence, technical know-how and new opportunities in international markets. The association is thus set to act as a partner for companies seeking to expand their global reach and secure their competitiveness.

Competitiveness in an international environment

The foundry supply industry is facing a changing market environment. Geopolitical uncertainties, fluctuating energy costs and vulnerable supply chains are putting pressure on manufacturers worldwide. At the same time, traditional market structures are changing in Europe and on international production markets.

Turini sees this not only as a source of risk, but also as an opportunity for further development. With regard to the Italian foundry supply industry, he highlights its resilience, high quality standards, specialised expertise and continuous technological progress. These factors are intended to help companies remain competitive even under changing conditions.

From AMAFOND’s perspective, this requires commitment at several levels. The organisation highlights competitive energy costs, reduced bureaucratic complexity, more efficient political processes and a unified European industrial strategy. This strategy should take strong industrial value chains into account and promote investment in innovation, digital transformation and technical know-how.

AMAFOND focuses on international networking

A key objective of the association’s new leadership is to expand its international presence. AMAFOND aims to support member companies through better market insights, international contacts and greater visibility outside Italy. This is intended to promote global reach, diversification and new growth opportunities.

The International Foundry Forum in Venice plays a central role in this. The event aims to strengthen the exchange of knowledge, dialogue and cross-border cooperation. At the same time, AMAFOND is linking the forum to its anniversary year and its ambition to translate eight decades of the association’s experience into concrete impetus for the sector’s future competitiveness.

The association is thus positioning itself as a link between member companies, international markets, decision-makers and institutions. For the Italian foundry supply industry, AMAFOND aims to provide guidance, pool interests and facilitate new partnerships.

80 Years of AMAFOND

AMAFOND stands for Associazione Italiana Fornitori Fonderie. The association was founded in 1946 and today has almost 100 member companies. These companies represent a significant proportion of Italy’s production capacity in the foundry supply industry.

AMAFOND supports its members with technical, economic and regulatory expertise. The association also promotes innovation and export activities. In its anniversary year, 2026, the focus will be not only on looking back over eight decades of the association’s work but, above all, on the future international positioning of its member companies.
